Many businesses use Excel spreadsheets to complete business critical Budgeting, Forecasting, Sales, Resource and Cash Flow planning. Such spreadsheet ‘solutions’ usually start life as quick fixes to functional inadequacies in formal business systems but grow organically to become cumbersome and error prone.

Such spreadsheet solutions usually rely heavily upon key individuals and manual user intervention leading to long timescales between cycles.

They are largely uncontrolled and not subject to formal version management and change control mechanisms leading to inaccuracies in business process rules and duplication of spreadsheet models.

Usually containing ‘master file’ information spreadsheets form duplicate islands of information that can become out of date and obsolete.

They are therefore error prone and time consuming to maintain leading to extended planning cycles and poor visibility of information produced.
